Mackey's Album Launch at de Barra's
The official Irish launch of 'Soldiers Songs' at de Barra's Folk Club in Clonakilty is one for the record books. Friends, families, and fans of the home turf were treated to the full complement of troops for the first time. Ireland's current Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, delivered the key note address for the occasion, and songs of the Irish abroad and at home filled the night air. Fionán de Cogáin wrote an ad hoc poem for the occasion (which will be scanned and available here before too long), plus a little encore meta-poem.
The night in Clonakilty marks the middle of the launch tour, with dates at the Crane Bar in Galway, Matt Molloy's in Westport, and Malone's Music Emporium in Milltown Malbay. The remainder of the tour centers around Cork, though stretching its arms to Dingle and Clonmel, with a grand finale in Buttevant, the Center of the Universe. Hup san áirde!
The troops are coming home for Captain Mackey's first shows in Ireland this June, all for the occasion of releasing the CD on Irish shores. The band is fresh and rested, ready to take the island by storm!
Captain Mackey's will be touring for two weeks, ranging from Matt Molloy's in Westport to de Barra's in Clonakilty, The New Music Club in Clonmel to McCarthy's in Dingle, and a number of venues in between! See you there!
Full tour details may be found on the schedule page.

Next stop: Muskegon
Captain Mackey's Goatskin and String Band caused tongues to wag in Milwaukee and Jackson, and the crew will descend this weekend on Michigan Irish Festival in Muskegon.
The band will finally meet Kathleen Sapp, the great-great-grandaughter of Captain Mackey himself. The internet is the great facilitator for such meetings...
The next stop for the band will be at the album launch in New York in October. See the calendar for more details.
Next stop: Jackson
Captain Mackey's made a great splash in Milwaukee, making great music and memories with friends new and old (most notably, the Elevator Session, Acts One and Two).
The band will headline CelticFest Mississippi in mid-September before heading north for the Michigan Irish Festival, where they will meet an actual descendant of Captain Mackey! Photos are sure to be posted.
Look out Milwaukee...
Captain Mackey's Goatskin and Stringband will storm the gates of the largest Irish music festival in the States this August. The Milwaukee Irish Fest is a long-standing event on the shores of Lake Michigan.
